Kyla Lam, CPA, CA
Principal

Kyla is passionate about serving the small businesses, families and not for profits in our community by keeping their books in order and helping them understand their numbers.

With 15 years of experience in a variety of accounting roles, she started Aspire in 2019 to offer her clients a zero-intimidation environment with flexible scheduling and a family-friendly approach. When Kyla became a mom in 2015, she started seeking a better work-life balance and a more technology-forward approach for herself and for her clients. That drive led her to open Aspire.

Kyla was raised in rural northern B.C. and attended the University of Alberta where she earned degrees in environmental science and commerce. Kyla’s first professional position was a unique role combining her knowledge of science and business as a Project Accountant at a prominent Vancouver environmental consulting firm. Kyla went on to pursue her Chartered Accountant designation, completing her articles with KPMG in 2009, and has worked in both public practice accounting firms and in industry.

Kyla also teaches at College of the Rockies and The Mountain Hub and volunteers as the treasurer of the Columbia Valley Community Foundation and CPA Canada Financial Literacy volunteer.

As avid campers, hikers, mountain bikers, and skiers, Kyla and her family can often be found exploring this beautiful valley we call home.

Sheryl Rice, CPA, CGA
Senior Manager

Sheryl brings over 25 years of public accounting experience to Aspire, serving small to medium size businesses in a wide range of industries, corporate and personal tax clients.

Sheryl obtained her professional accounting designation in 1997 and worked for a mid-size practice in northwest BC, becoming partner in 2010.  The local firm merged with a large national accounting and tax firm in 2015.

After retiring from full time practice. Sheryl and her husband relocated to Invermere in 2020 to be closer to their daughter and family.  Joining Aspire on a part-time basis provides the best of both worlds – allowing her to continue in a career that Sheryl has been passionate about over the years while spending time with family and enjoying all the Columbia Valley has to offer.

Sheila Leman
Accounting Specialist & Office Administrator

Sheila is an entrepreneur at heart but when she opened her first business she realized her accounting skills were lacking lustre.  She knew she needed to understand the accounting side of her business if she was going to be successful.  With that in mind she set out to learn.

Over the past seventeen years, Sheila has built her skills in a variety of progessive administration and accounting positions. This experience has given her a solid understanding of payroll and bookkeeping practices.  In building her accounting skillset, Sheila realized she enjoyed the profession and wanted to build a career around it.  Sheila is now in her 4th year of a Bachelor of Commerce degree, majoring in accounting through Thompson Rivers University.

As a mom, she appreciates a healthy work-life balance.  Sheila spends her downtime playing outside with her family and volunteering with the Radium Hot Springs Public Library board.
